Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu - One Visit, Many Gains.

    It is no gainsaying that Abia State, under the able piloting of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, has been placed on a pedestal of growth and all-round development. The commissioners and other government appointees in this present political dispensation in Abia are men and women of proven ability and character – hence their leaving no stone unturned in assisting the government to entrench a system that works.

    The recent visit of the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kate Nwosu, with other Governor’s Aides, namely, Mr. Obioma Ezeogbufor – Special Adviser on Trade and Investment, Mr. Chinenye Nwogu – SSA on Job Creation and Youth Development, Mr Ejim Chibuzo – Member Donor Fund Committee and Mr. Agbiri – Abuja Liaison Officer, cannot be termed a jamboree as enormous gains and benefits are accruing to ‘God’s Own State’ in the aftermath.
    The commissioner and her entourage first met with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Okechukwu Enelama, who showered praises and encomiums on our pragmatic Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for running an open door policy, Free School Feeding Programme and massive infrastructural breakthroughs since his assumption of office. He assured the commissioner that her visit to seek areas where the state and other concern stakeholders can leverage on, to foster economic diversification, industrialization, increase foreign and local investment inflow and the growing of the MSME sector, especially the leather and garment areas in Aba will pay off handsomely.
    The Minister stated that his ministry via the World Bank and DFID funded project known as GEMPS will support the Aba leather and garment clusters with a common facility that will in no small way improve their capacity for production and job creation.

    Contributing, the Minister of state, Mrs Aisha Abubakar promised to work with Abia State to revamp the Aba Textile Mills which has been in comatose, improve the garment cluster in Aba among others. She used the occasion to implore the State Government to join the Association of Nigerian Textile Manufacturers meeting anchored by her office. The ministers were presented with Akwete fabrics in the spirit of promoting locally made production by the State Government.
    The Commissioner and her entourage was also at the head quarters of Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) and held talks with the executive secretary, Nigerian Investment Promotion Council Mrs Ladi S. Katagun in a view to synergizing with the agency to properly market Abia State and attract eye popping investments to the State. On her part, the executive secretary promised to partner with Abia State on the areas of investment drive, training of the staff of the state’s Investment Promotion Agency when fully operational and also, to assist the State evolve an articulated investment profile and any other areas of collaborations.

    The Abia team also visited the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) at the agency’s headquarters where they met with the management team led by the Director General in the person of Mrs. Chika Balogun. Hospitality and tourism are pivotal and indispensable to increase IGR, development of the State and boost in tourism. Mrs Balogun hinted that she will assist Abia State develop the sector as well as developing a tourism master plan, develop a tour guide, map/document tourism sites, trend frontline service providers in addition to setting up an office and training center in the State to leap-frog the achievement of all the laudable objectives on programmes of the agency. She requested for an invitation to visit the State with her team to make a formal presentation to the State Executive Council.
    The proceeded to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation and Youth Employment, Mr. Afolabi Imeukhude, in the Vice President’s office at the Presidential Villa Abuja, who commended the State for being proactive in tackling the menace of youths unemployment . He informed the Abia team that the Federal Government is poised to ameliorate the plight of the youths who are the greatest victims of unemployment. Maintaining that, the government at the center, have so far launched five social safety intervention programmes tailored to reduce youth unemployment to its barest minimum.

    He however, implored the SSA to the State Governor on Job Creation, Mr. Chinenye Nwogu to ensure that Abia youths are beneficiaries of the current programmes from Federal Government to bring succor to the unemployed like the N-Power programme that is ongoing.
    On a gladdening note, the SSA to the President on Job Creation and Youth Employment informed his audience that the Federal government has captured the Aba leather and garment clusters as a major platform for job creation and entrepreneurship development in the recently launched job creation strategy document promising to participate in the State’s entrepreneurship and Job Creation Summit being hatched.
    The visit was rewarding and compliments Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s efforts and feats at home at creating an enabling climate for business, investment and tourism to thrive.
