Among the three major tribes in Nigeria–Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba–Igbos are the most critical of their elders. Few times, the criticisms are wisely delivered. Most times and unfortunately more regularly, it is delivered unwisely–hence zero action from the elders. The many failings and marginalisation of Igbos are not the fault of the elders. The fusion of strange bedfellows in the quest to subdue has been tackled with great tact by these elders when most of us were not even born. The youths that listen to the elders are wise. Not because they are always right but because they have more experiences of being wrong and would prevent us from towing similar path. Youthful rebellion against the elders of Igboland should stop. Let us engage our elders constructively and wisely. I am not sure any father will want his uncouth child to inherit his empire. So will Igbo elders not willing to impart their wisdom on the younger generation that hardly cherishes them. Abusing the elders on Social Media with alacrity is not WISDOM!
